Overview

Africaribbean Taste, nestled at 946 Swan Creek Rd E in Fort Washington, MD, invites diners to savor authentic Jamaican flavor with a touch that celebrates the vibrant Africaribbean culinary scene. This restaurant’s core strength lies in its richly spiced main dishes, with Brown Stew Chicken and Curry Shrimp standing out as crowd favorites. These dishes showcase tender, slow-cooked meats woven with deep, earthy sauces—a testament to traditional Jamaican cooking methods that demand patience and care.

The Goat Combination Platter and Veggie Roti broaden the menu’s appeal, offering hearty options that cater both to meat lovers and those seeking plant-based delights. The roti, with its soft, flaky exterior, envelops flavorful fillings, creating a satisfying handheld meal. Rice and Peas and Jollof Rice underscore the cross-cultural influences that define the experience, though opinions vary on their seasoning, highlighting the personal nature of taste and spice balance in this cuisine.

Desserts like the Rum Bundt Cake provide a sweet finish, offering subtle notes of Caribbean warmth that linger after the main dishes. Complementing the food selection are authentic beverages such as the Jamaican Ting sparkling drink and Calypso’s tropical punches, which elevate the meal by providing refreshing, bright contrasts to the savory richness of the plates.

The space is honest and unpretentious, fitting for those who come seeking genuine flavors rather than flashy decor. It caters aptly to families and groups eager for an exploration of Jamaican staples in a local setting. Staff are consistently noted for friendly, attentive service, enhancing the welcoming atmosphere.

While some feedback points to minor inconsistencies—like seasoning nuances in the jollof rice that may not satisfy every palate—the overall consensus reflects a menu filled with soulful, well-executed dishes. Africaribbean Taste stands as a meaningful alternative to chain restaurants nearby, perfect for anyone craving authentic Jamaican cuisine embedded in a community-focused environment.

The food was okay. I got the cassava leaves with jallof rice. The cassava wasn't very flavorful or spicy which is what I expected. The jallof had the right color but lacked flavor.

I ordered the Brown Stew Chicken with jollof rice and plantains. The chicken (thighs) were very tender, delicious, and flavourful. Here is my only criticism: The jollof rice may be seasoned with cardamon and hints of cinnamon. Because the brown stew chicken is so savory, it throws off the flavor a bit. Imagine someone sprinking cinnamon in your gravy.....that is what it tastes like. White rice would be more complimentary to this dish and the pallette. The plantains are very tasty, and they are cooked to perfection with a nice and subtle crisp on the edges; however, they do not pair well with this dish since the Brown Stew Chicken is already slightly sweet. Cabbage would probably be a better selection. I would order this dish again, but I'd take it home and eat it over white rice. Great customer service. Average price point for an establishment like this. The jollof rice is a hard pass for me.

I have been here several times in the past and the service and food are usually great. I went yesterday and the jerk chick was extremely dry and didn’t have that jerk flavor I was used to from them. The cabbage and rice and peas were good and the cashier/server was great. I was very disappointed this time.
